Events and Activities in Cambridge
International
Student Welcome Programme
The Christian Graduate Society, supported by Friends International
/ The Kairos Trust organises a welcome programme at the start
of the academic year. We meet trains and coaches to welcome
international students when they first arrive in the city.
We also organise various social events and outings to help
international students adjust to British life and make friends.
For details of how to get involved contact Bartow.
Hospitality Programme
We run a hospitality scheme where we put international students
in touch with local Christians. Hosts are encouraged to invite
international students into their home for the occasional
meal or maybe for a few days over Christmas. This is a great
way of making friendships with international students and
their families. Often these friendships continue well beyond
their stay in Britain. For details of how to get involved
contact our Hospitality Secretary, Wilrun
Leiwe.
The
Barn
An international coffee bar open every Thursday evening
from 7.45pm - 10.30pm. It provides a relaxed environment for
international students to chat and make new friends. As well
as being a great place to escape from the library, it also
offers them the chance to practise their English. We organise
lots of different games and some special events during the
term. We also provide an opportunity to investigate the Christian
faith for those who are interested. Click
here for more details.
Harry’s
A coffee bar run by Cambridge University Christian Union.
It meets every Friday evening during term, from 5.00 to 7.00pm
in the Henry Martyn Hall, Market Street. This too gives international
students the opportunity to practise their English and make
new friends. Tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes provided! For
more information, please click here.
Visa Courses
For anyone interested in exploring what Christians believe,
we run Visa courses, starting in October, January & April.
These usually last nine weeks. Each evening starts with a
delicious meal, followed by a short talk about some area of
the Christian faith. We then separate into smaller groups
for discussion. In July & August we run two shorter Visa
courses. For more information, please contact Bartow
Wylie.
