Bournemouth

Steven Stanton and Anita Dalkin are the Friends International workers for the Bournemouth area. They work with many local churches to organise activities for international students. Sue Burt is also based in Bournemouth and is part of the Chaplaincy team at the university. Contact Stanton for further information about the work.

 

There are a number of free meetings every week in Bournemouth for international students in different parts of the town. We call it the SMILE network (Student Meetings for Internationals Local Events) and each meeting is supported by Friends International. We also run special events which you can hear about at any of these meetings.
You are welcome at any of these meetings if you are either a language school student or a university student.

Tuesdays

The Visa Course

We run termly discussion-based Bible courses at the Hub Café (Hub Café, 7-9 Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth. (Yellow buses: 1a,1b,1c, 2, 3a, 3b, 4a).
From October to December 2010 there is a FREE 10 week course called VISA, which introduces the Christian faith in simple English. Contact Stanton for more details.

Wednesdays

Compass (Charminster)
Compass meets at Beet Language Centre, Nortoft Road, Charminster, Bournemouth. Wednesday evenings 20.00 - 21.30. Free admission with tea and coffee provided. Come and practise your English in a relaxed atmosphere. Compass is run by members of St Andrews church: www.standrewsbournemouth.com. (Yellow buses: 3a, 3b)

Thursdays

A Meal at Richmond Park (Boscombe) - Every 2 Weeks
18.00, starting with a free meal.. Richmond Park Church, Palmerston Rd, Boscombe www.richmondparkchurch.org.uk. Come and enjoy English teaching, worship and friendship. (Yellow buses: 28a,28b, 1a,1b,1c)

 

Wellspring chill out (Westbourne)
Wellspring chill out (Westbourne)
This chill out style evening is on Thursdays from 19.30 at Christ Church, Alumhurst Road, Westbourne. Enjoy conversation and friendship, plus table tennis and many special events. (Yellow buses 1b, 1c) Find out more information at www.thewic.org.uk

Fridays

The Hub (Lansdowne)
Open every Friday evening from 20.00. A place to meet friends, relax and talk. We also hold occasional special evenings eg food evenings, live music, barn dances. This activity is held at the Hub Café, 7-9 Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth. (Yellow buses: 1a,1b,1c, 2, 3a, 3b, 4a)

Sundays

Westbourne International Community

A worship service in simple English especially for international students (14.00) at West Cliff Baptist Church, Poole Road, Westbourne. Find more information at www.thewic.org.uk


At all these places there is opportunity for students to relax, meet friends, practise English and maybe find out about the message of Jesus Christ.

Activities for University students

Hospitality Scheme

An opportunity to visit a British family. Would you like to be linked with a local family who would invite you for occasional meals and friendship? Details are available during Orientation Week or contact Pat Goodhall, Hospitality Scheme Co-ordinator, or Stanton for more information.

Global Café

This is a café for international students studying at Bournemouth University, organised by the Chaplaincy. Every Wednesday 5.00 - 6.30pm in The RetreatCafé, Poole House, Talbot Campus. Meet friends, make friends, relax. Free drinks and cookies! Email Sue for more details.

Christian Union (BUCU)

There is a main Bournemouth University Christian Union (BUCU) meeting every Wednesday evening at 8.00pm in the Hub Cafe, 7-9 Lansdowne Road. BUCU welcomes all international students studying at BU and AIB and holds some special international events.
